Subtext

[…so just wanted to say I've been enjoying getting to know you better this year.] Especially these past few months, during which I believe I've learned more about you than in the previous decade combined. Truly, it's been one of the greatest joys of my life. And, if I could have just one Christmas wish, it would be that that process continues, indefinitely. Accelerates, even. There's nothing I look forward to more in 2023 than that.

[Hope you have a lovely Christmas!] I wish we could spend it together, but since we can't I hope you enjoy your time with your family, as I will mine. I hope you get to see the gleam of joy in your kids' eyes, even if they're getting old enough now that you're the one who's sitting up in the morning waiting for everyone else to awaken. It kills me a little bit inside knowing there will be essentially zero chance for us to see each other over the next few weeks, but I know it'll be over soon enough. And I'm sure it won't be too long now before we're all home at the same time and can have that game night you suggested. We had a couple new ones under our tree this year, I'll be mentioning one of them to you here in a few weeks. Just, you know, making sure I don't let that ball drop, as I have in the past.

Merry Christmas, my love, and happy new year! I'm looking forward to all of our new moments in 2023… I have no doubt there will be plenty of them!
